Research Associate I

Overview:
The Metropolitan Housing and Communities Center is seeking persons with strong interests in, and aptitude for designing and conducting empirical research across the range of the Center’s activity clusters and programs: housing; community and economic development; neighborhoods and youth development; neighborhood indicators; homelessness; arts and culture; and public management. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of having worked both collaboratively and individually on qualitative and quantitative research projects, and of directing and managing such projects.
 

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include: development of empirical research projects; design of data collection protocols; primary (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups and fieldwork) and secondary data collection; data analysis; report writing; preparation of dissemination plans; and related tasks such as supervision of research assistants, progress monitoring, budget monitoring, quality control, and other activities necessary for successful completion of research projects.
 

Qualifications:
A combination of several years of project management experience; strong quantitative and/or qualitative research and analytical skills; and relevant substantive knowledge. Also important is a willingness to work both independently and on team projects; adeptness at interacting with staff at all levels; facility in translating research for lay audiences; and the ability to think strategically about research agendas, research approaches, and communications opportunities. Education requirements: attainment of an MA/MS, ABD, or a Ph.D. in a discipline generally associated with the substantive areas listed above (such as public policy, economics, political science, sociology, or urban and regional planning).
