Nick Chun grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and moved to Oregon after high school to attend the University of Portland. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in History and Sociology, Chun pursued a Master of Urban Studies at Portland State University. As a graduate assistant, he worked on a variety of school district forecast projects, concentrating on GIS analysis and data science. Chun’s research interests focus on growth management and land use. His Master’s thesis, Identifying Clusters of Non-Farm Activity within Exclusive Farm Use Zones in the Northern Willamette Valley, uses GIS, spatial statistics, and administrative data to classify areas where non-farm development have proliferated within the region’s protected agriculture zones. In addition to managing the forecast program, Chun has been streamlining the data processing and workflow of a variety of PRC/IMS projects.
