Kansas City’s regional development process: Data driving new opportunities

The recent Supreme Court decision on “disparate impact” and the issuance of HUD’s new Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule set the stage for serious recommitment to addressing the costly sprawl and segregation produced by the development systems in most of America’s metropolitan areas.

A review of the Creating Sustainable Places (CSP) initiative of the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC—Kansas City’s metropolitan planning organization) illustrates the role data can play in opening up new conversations toward these ends.
