The Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development is seeking a Ph.D.- level Senior Research Associate to take on a leadership role with our evaluation, research and data integration efforts. The Center works to inform public policy and program planning through data and analysis to address urban poverty, its causes, and its impact on communities and their residents; specifically, the human social and economic implications of poverty as experienced at the levels of the family and community. We are a multidisciplinary team of faculty, researchers, programmers, and students who bring varied backgrounds, skills and perspectives to our work. The Center and School have a collegial atmosphere that promotes effective dialogue and collaboration between academics and practitioners.

Responsibilities
The Senior Research Associate will take a leading role in research and evaluation for a number of funded research projects. This will require working very closely with funders and external stakeholders as well as the Center’s staff of programmers and research analysts. The duties of the Senior Research Associate include:

  • Provide leadership on aspects of research design and evaluation methodology;
  • Supervise and coordinate aspects of data acquisition, collection and management;
  • Conceptualize and oversee data analysis;
  • Prepare routine and special reports on evaluation and research findings;
  • Present research and evaluation findings to local and national audiences;
  • Author, co-author, publish and disseminate articles and reports on research and evaluation results.

 

Qualifications
The candidate should possess an earned doctorate in social work, public health, psychology, public policy or a related field. Experience also is essential in conducting research and evaluation on community based family and children's programs. Additional expertise in subfields of early childhood and family services is desirable, as is experience in working with administrative and integrated data.

The successful candidate for this position will also possess:

  • An understanding of human development within the context of urban communities and changing social welfare policy;
  • Communication skills effective with academic, policy and general audiences;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data from administrative, survey, and observational sources;
  • Familiarity with data management and analysis with SAS, STATA, SPSS, R or similar packages;
  • Organization and management skills in working with time-sensitive data collection and analysis processes;
  • Skills to collaborate with individuals from many disciplinary backgrounds;
  • Ability to combine high scientific research standards with the challenge of studying complicated, community-based policies and services.
