PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
· Coordinate interactions between development team and content experts, guiding the initial design of all information products. Work with team to develop comprehensive workflow processes for each product that resolves multi-project conflicts, and ensures individual responsibilities are clearly assigned. Work with content experts to reduce scope of projects to resolve resource constraints.
· Organize and facilitate frequent sprint planning sessions (where development work is discussed and prioritized) as well as estimation and retrospective session.
Communication
· Design ongoing tools for audience analysis, using a combination of technology and instructional design, as well as more conventional survey methods.
· Based on audience analysis and formative evaluation, refine and formalize the journalistic style, information design and marketing strategy of The Data Center’s information products.
Data Analysis
· Assist in the collection, processing, and analyzing of data sets from a wide array of sources for inclusion in products and publications.
Production
· Manage the final production steps of all The Data Center’s information products including comprehensive editing that ensures products can withstand detailed audience scrutiny.
· Nimbly guide all products through final promotion steps with responsiveness to sudden news events.
Continuous Quality Improvement
· Execute ongoing formative evaluation tools of information products, in the form of user testing, systematic server log analysis, and usability heuristics.
· Ensure project documentation and artifacts are complete, current, and stored appropriately with all projects to have an appropriate level of developmental/technical documentation.
· Maintain thorough working knowledge of current best-practices in electronic communities, web site usability, information architecture, human factors engineering, information design, and digital divide issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree minimum with demonstrated confidence working with PhD level content experts.
- Experience publishing highly rigorous research as well as the ability to manage multiple publications in an agile environment.
- 3 years experience in production management on data analysis and information design projects. Formal training in Project Management a plus.
- Ability to work closely with stakeholders to distill use cases, personas, needs, desires.
- Ability to work with content experts to formalize user stories from strategic visions.
- Demonstrated ability to design new media products in such a way that technology serves (rather than drives) functionality, and functionality is closely matched to audience needs.
- Demonstrated ability in communications, oral and written.
- Demonstrated very strong attention to detail (specifically mathematical), strong data analysis skills, strong information design skills, and excellent proofreading skills.
- Demonstrated competencies in or demonstrated ability to quickly learn: Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, and WordPress; Google office products
- Must reside in the greater New Orleans area or Southeast Louisiana, and be available to attend frequent in-person meetings.
- No outside business interests that may conflict with the organization’s goals and objectives and not explicitly approved by the Executive Director.
