The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) seeks a Digital Services Manager to apply digital tools and civic technology practices to the planning and policy issues facing the communities of Metro Boston. This role supervises a team of web developers building interactive, data-driven online products as well as digital applications for the region's municipalities. The team is part of an interdisciplinary and outcome-oriented public sector agency, and the work entails working closely with planners, data analysts, designers, community engagement specialists, and municipal collaboration experts across the organization. Our web applications cover a wide range of topic areas such as housing, transportation, climate resiliency, and municipal operations; and this position oversees all stages of product development, deployment, and user engagement for those tools. The team's new leader will supervise an existing portfolio of projects while developing new program ideas and pursuing external funding opportunities. This manager will also guide development of digital products and online engagement for MAPC's upcoming two-year initiative to create a new regional plan for Greater Boston.

The Digital Services Group is a unit of MAPC's Data Services Department, which is focused on using data and technology to support informed decision-making. Formed in 2015, the Digital Services team finds new and effective ways to use digital tools to enhance the quality of life in Metro Boston.  Examples of our work can be found at www.mapc.org/learn/data-tools.

We're searching for an innovative, mission-driven individual committed to a more sustainable and equitable region. This is not a technical role; that is, the manager will not be expected to perform technical programming tasks on a daily basis. However, the role requires an understanding of fundamental web technologies and strategies for effectively delivering digital products. The ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of the planning and policy systems this work will influence (either in Massachusetts or nationally), and bold ideas for how to expand that influence.
