JOB SUMMARY

The key function of the Data Analyst is to ensure the accurate, appropriate, and timely gathering, processing, and preparation of data from a variety of sources. This is achieved through rigorous adherence to standards of research and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team to analyze, visualize, and present data for publication and dissemination to a broad base of constituents. The Data Analyst is considered an important member of the Research Team.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with minimum 2 years work experience.
  2. Demonstrated competencies in or ability to quickly acquire skills in: Microsoft Excel; statistical software packages such as SPSS; ESRI ArcGIS; Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver; Tableau or similar; web content management systems; other Microsoft and Google office products.
  3. Demonstrated very strong attention to detail (specifically mathematical), strong data analysis skills, good data visualization skills, and excellent data checking and validation skills.
  4. Demonstrated skills at researching and collecting data, processing and managing large amounts of data, and organizing data, files, and information.
  5. Willingness to take direction and work closely with co-workers and contractors to create, edit, and produce/publish varied types of documents, reports, and analyses.
  6. Willingness to be agile enough to adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines. Must be willing to demonstrate both tenacity and composure in the face of new information or unexpected obstacles.
  7. Willingness to be flexible, creative, and ethical in solving unique problems.
  8. Experience working as a productive part of a team.
  9. Must exhibit a passion for The Data Center’s mission and values.
  10. Must reside in the greater New Orleans area or Southeast Louisiana, and be available to attend frequent in-person meetings.
  11. No outside business interests that may conflict with the organization’s goals, objectives, or position as an unbiased source of analysis are allowed.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The list below describes the essential functions of the job, but should not be considered the complete list of job duties. Others duties may arise as needed.

  • Assist in the development, expansion, and implementation of new indicator data analysis, including relevant research of data sets and quality assurance.
  • Collect, process, analyze and/or geocode data sets from a wide array of sources for inclusion in products and publications.
  • Collaboratively create and produce high-quality web pages, maps, charts, and other data visualizations.
  • Document the standards and processes used for development of assigned data analysis tasks.
  • All work should be delivered according to the quality assurance processes established to maintain The Data Center’s brand as a rigorous source of data and analysis.
  • Assist in answering public data requests received through the website.
  • Assist in filling various data analysis requests associated with grant or contract supported endeavors.
  • Assist in researching and assessing technology decisions.
  • Assist in organizing and executing the logistics associated with convenings, including arranging meeting rooms, A/V equipment, food planning, and more.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Starting date is negotiable; however, filling the position by December 2017 is preferred.
