Professor, Reusche Chair in Geographic Information Science

I am the Bob and Mary Reusche Chair in Geographic Information Science, Director of the Center for Urban and Regional Analysis (CURA) and Professor in the Department of Geography at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, USA.   I am also a Courtesy Professor in the City and Regional Planning program in the Knowlton School,  a member of the Faculty Advisory Board of the Sustainability Institute and an Affiliated Faculty of the Translational Data Analytics Institute at Ohio State.  I also chair the Mapping Science Committee and I am a member of the Board on Earth Sciences and Resources of the US National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine.

My research and teaching interests are at the intersection between geographic  information science and transportation, in particular, the analysis of human mobility within cities and regions using geospatial and moving objects analytics. The main questions driving my research include sustainable transportation, livable cities, and the relationships between human mobility, health and social equity. In addition to over 150 scientific publications in peer-refereed journals and edited books, I am also the author (with Shih-Lung Shaw) of Geographic Information Systems for Transportation: Principles and Applications (Oxford University Press), and editor (with Jiawei Han) of Geographic Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, second edition (CRC Press). I am an Associate Editor of the journal Geographic Analysis and serve on the editorial board of other top journals in geographic information science, spatial analysis and transportation.
