Implementation Guidebook for Sustainable Development in Greater Kansas City

Report by Mid-America Regional Council - Creating Sustainable Places
January 2012

The Mid-America Regional Council   (Kansas City)

CREATING SUSTAINABLE PLACES (CSP) was created to help the Kansas City region towards a path for a sustainable future. The vision, strategy and principles build on over 10 years of planning and discussion at the local and regional levels.  A primary goal is to move beyond planning to implementation, spurring decisions that create real change in real places.
This Implementation Guidebook will serve as a resource for local governments and community partners to move towards sustainability. It will also:
- Guide sustainable projects toward implementation in 6 designated corridors.
- Establish a framework for replicable, multi-jurisdictional planning and implementation processes based on the “triple bottom line” - social, economic and environmental interests.
- Offer a variety of strategies for successful planning and implementation. Sustainability is not one-size-fits-all.
The Guidebook offers tools, indicators, templates and best practices for the 6 six key corridors as part of the 3-year CSP initiative, and for any other community, in creating more sustainable places.
