Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance   (Baltimore)

The Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance – Jacob France Institute at University of Baltimore (BNIA-JFI) helps people, groups, and organizations make better decisions using accurate, reliable, and accessible data to improve the quality of life in Baltimore neighborhoods.  While the organization had been monitoring housing indicators for some time, the housing crisis demanded new data and tools in order to understand the varying impact on the city’s neighborhoods. In partnership with the Baltimore Homeownership Preservation Coalition, BNIA-JFI launched a resource website on foreclosure filings, including maps and spreadsheets tracking various foreclosure measures since 2008. This presentation will describe how BNIA has worked together with the Coalition and other Baltimore stakeholders to use indicators to strengthen their efforts to prevent foreclosures and stabilize neighborhoods.  It will also describe a related project measuring the effects of these foreclosures on the school and residential mobility of public school children by neighborhood.
