New NNIP Collaboration with Black Wealth Data Center

Urban Institute   (NNIP Coordinator)

September 2022

NNIP is excited to announce a partnership with the recently launched, Black Wealth Data Center (BWDC). Funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative and currently housed in Prosperity Now, The Black Wealth Data Center was established to provide public and private sector leaders with actionable data for policy making and investment decisions to grow Black wealth.

NNIP shares their belief that data are critical tools in the effort to help people illuminate inequities, articulate strengths, and identify solutions to build Black wealth. We encourage you to check out their site.

The partnership currently consists of collaborating on an RFP to select two NNIP Partner organizations to collaborate with local stakeholders and help them use neighborhood-level data to inform the development of policies and programs that support the wealth accumulation of Black families, communities, and businesses. We expect these projects to support new applications of data and build the capacity of organizations to use data. NNIP Partners from cities where the share of population who identifies as Black is greater than 30 percent are eligible to receive a $25,000 grant. The project will also provide an valuable opportunity to put the NNIP's Goals to Improve Use of Data in Advancing Racial Equity into practice. NNIP and Black Wealth Data Center will announce the two sites in January 2023.

The lessons from the two sites will be shared with the larger field working on racial equity in wealth building and the whole NNIP network. We hope that this partnership inspires people in other places to consider how they can use neighborhood data to support initiatives to build wealth for Black families, communities, and businesses.
