NNIP Camp is a  series of concurrent “un-conference” sessions co-created by the meeting participants on site.  The purpose is to allow open space during the meeting to share and learn about topics of interest to participants in an informal setting.

Sessions 1 and 2 were held on May 5th. Sessions 3 and 4 were held on May 19th

Session 1

Title: Preparing for Census 2020
Facilitator: Kathy Pettit
Description: How are partners getting ready for the 2020 data releases? Are partners thinking about potential implications of differential privacy?

Title: Refine NNIP goals to advance racial equity
Facilitator: Leah Hendey
Description: We developed a series of statements for the network to reflect and acknowledge the history of data being used to harm and exclude people and communities of color and goals to proactively address these harms in our data practices and organizations. We'd love to get partners feedback and reactions on our first draft!

Title: Roadmap for affordable housing data
Facilitator: Bob Gradeck
Description: We're working on a project to assemble data about subsidized housing and build an interface similar to what our DC and NYC partners have done. We've done a lot of research and have assembled a lot of the data from HUD's multifamily, tax credit, and affordable housing programs, but hoping to work together w/ partners to document what we collectively know about this data, and discuss systems/processes for using it to promote affordable housing efforts.

Title: Virtual community engagement
Facilitator: Amy Rohan
Description: What are ways that different partners continued to do community engagement while in a virtual environment?

Session 2

Title: Exploring collaboration on technology
Facilitator: Steven Saylor
Description: Inspired by the cooperative models described in a recent report from Georgetown’s Beeck Center: “Sharing Government Software: How Agencies are Cooperatively Building Mission-Critical Software,” we're thinking about how collaborative models can be useful in our work with local stakeholders, or as a framework for cross-city partnerships under the NNIP cross-site project umbrella or other sorts of collaborations. We’d like to listen to others’ experiences working on collaborative models (software or otherwise).

Title: How to support grassroots with limited time
Facilitator: Sarah Eisele-Dyrli
Description: While we all aim to partner in meaningful ways with the people who are in the data or who will be using the data, the reality is that the grassroots organizations that are working hard to ensure the voices of people who are experiencing economic, racial, gender, and other inequities simply don’t have the time or staffing to engage in the kind of data work that they would like to. What kinds of processes, tools, strategies have folks tried and found to be helpful in providing meaningful support based in the realities these organizations (and the community members) face?

Title: Airing of Grievances
Facilitator: Erica Raleigh
Description: Do we want to talk about things we find challenging or frustrate us? It's not the place to take notes, but it's often helpful to talk about things that you wish you could make better or stop doing.
