Randy began work at the Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies on June 20, 2016. He is project leader for the IMS Community Geography Project, which uses GIS and mapping to empower community members to achieve positive change. Randy has an MS in Geography from Portland State University and a GIS certificate. He has worked as a contract cartographer, and GIS instructor, and a GIS Technician. Randy has a passion for working in the Portland community. He has volunteered his mapping skills for the Native American Youth and Family Center and for the Coumbia Slough Watershed Council. He has also taught GIS to high school students. He recently made signficant contributions to the book Portlandness: A Cultural Atlas.
