Steve Spiker (Spike) is the Director of Research & Technology at the Urban Strategies Council, a social change nonprofit supporting innovation and collaboration based in Oakland for almost 25 years. He leads the Council’s research, spatial analysis, evaluation and tech work. Spike has research experience in community development, housing, criminology, spatial epidemiology and reentry issues. His areas of expertise include data management and visualization, GIS and applied technology implementation. Spike is a mentor with the Code for America startup and is supporting the Opendata and OpenGov movements in the East Bay. He works with a local youth group and campaigns to end human trafficking and modern slavery and also runs Stealing Beauty Photography.
