Developing a New Data Portal in Detroit

Against the backdrop of mistrust among governmental units, financial distress, and neighborhood disinvestment, a burgeoning Open Data movement in Detroit is being fueled in large part by several organizations’ new data portals. Among these organizations, Data Driven Detroit developed the city’s first portal by leveraging its existing ArcGIS infrastructure along with the new ArcGIS Open Data product to quickly establish an online portal to widely share important data. In this talk we’ll review how it was set up, and its impact on the organization and the city.
