Using SAVI in Strategic Planning and Gap Analysis

As part of its Early Intervention and Prevention Initiative (EIP), Marion County Commission on Youth, Inc. (MCCOY), an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization, initiated a project to create a neighborhood-based center for the convenience of the community. The Polis Center joined the multi-organizational task force helping MCCOY to reach a data-informed decision about the best location and services for the center. Using data from SAVI, The Polis Center informed MCCOY's planning process by:

• Defining the focus question
• Identifying the appropriate data to answer the question
• Conducting a detailed gap analysis of needs and assets
• Developing visualizations to analyze the data
• Interpreting the results
