By the Numbers: Concentrated Poverty

We are pleased to invite you to a forum presented by the NYU Furman Center, By the Numbers: Concentrated Poverty. This event is presented in conjunction with the release of the NYU Furman Center's State of New York City's Housing and Neighborhoods in 2016 report, copies of which will be distributed at the event.

This year’s forum will focus on poverty and its spatial concentration, including recent changes in poverty across New York City’s neighborhoods and demographic groups. The panel will discuss trends in New York City, how they compare to the experiences of other cities, and strategies for addressing concentrated poverty and its effects.

Panelists will include:

• Jacob W. Faber, Assistant Professor of Public Service, NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service;
• Jennifer Jones Austin, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies;
• Robin Snyderman, Principal, BRicK Partners, LLC;
• Gustavo Velasquez, Director of the Washington-Area Research Initiative, Urban Institute, and former Assistant Secretary for the Office of Fair Housing at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (invited);  and
• Katherine M. O’Regan, Faculty Director, NYU Furman Center & Professor of Public Policy and Planning, NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service (Moderator).

Immediately following the program, guests are invited to a wine and cheese reception. The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
