Atlanta Regional Commisssion applies for HUD Sustainable Communities grant

In September 2011, ARC, in partnership with a consortium of 11 other organizations, submitted an application for funding to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program. The Program supports metropolitan and multijurisdictional planning efforts that integrate housing, land use, economic and workforce development, transportation, and infrastructure investments, in line with the six Livability Principles of the federal Partnership for Sustainable Communities.

The Atlanta Consortium’s application proposes to use funds that will enable local implementation of PLAN 2040 through training, technical assistance and case studies; demonstrate the real-world application of PLAN 2040 by working with seven communities in the region to further the implementation of sustainable local development plans around transit-supported/supportive locations; and measure the grant’s success through the development of an evaluation framework and the documentation of lessons learned.
